Bernard Agulhas

Mr. Agulhas is CEO at the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA), the statutory regulator and standard setter for auditors in South Africa. Prior to this, he was the Director, Auditing and Ethics Standards. He represents IRBA on various external committees, including the King Committee on Corporate Governance.

Mr. Agulhas also represents South Africa on the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators (IFIAR), whose members share best practices and common challenges, and is the chairman of IFIAR’s Standards Coordinating Working Group.

Mr. Agulhas has participated in various technical projects and papers for the IAASB and IFAC, and provided technical support for three of IAASB’s Clarity Standards.

Mr. Agulhas is a Chartered Accountant, a Registered Public Sector Financial Officer, and holds a certificate in management from the WITS Business School (South Africa).
