Bruce Winter was appointed to the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board in November 2011. He was nominated by the Transnational Auditors Committee of the Forum of Firms.
Mr. Winter retired in June 2012 as a partner from the Audit and Assurance Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Toronto, Canada, having spent 35 years in public practice. He focused on providing audit services to a number of large, multinational clients of the firm, and over the years he worked with clients in the consumer packaged goods, natural resource, technology, and financial services industries. Mr. Winter was also a member of PwC's Global Accounting Committee, which developed policies to promote the delivery of high-quality, consistent accounting advice within the PwC network with an emphasis on the global implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Mr. Winter served on the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants from 2007 to 2011 and served as the chair of in 2010 and 2011. The Canadian AASB has the authority, as reflected in federal and provincial corporations acts, to set standards for the provision of audit and related services in Canada.
Mr. Winter has held a number of volunteer leadership roles in community organizations, including the arts (Shaw Festival) and health care sectors (Canadian Cancer Society and St. Joseph's Health Centre).
