Felicitas T. Irungu was elected to the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) in January 2011. She was nominated by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

Ms. Irungu worked with Ernst & Young in Eastern Africa since June 1989 until January 2012 in various capacities. She has spent her 22 ½ years of professional experience in related aspects of audit, accountancy, and financial consultancy covering various industry sectors, with a client portfolio spanning the banking and hospitality industries, and non-governmental organizations. She was an audit manager for seven years in the firm until 2003 when she took a new regional role.

Ms. Irungu was director in charge of Learning & Development in the Eastern Africa region of the firm from 2003 to 2006 and thereafter took on more responsibilities in the professional practice group in the region, focusing on audit support in audit technical and related areas. She has participated in various professional forums, including facilitation in workshops on IFRS, IPSAS, and ISQC1, among others. She was instrumental in setting up the Environment and Sustainability Advisory Services at Ernst & Young and is a certified environmental auditor with National Environment Management Authority in Kenya.

Ms. Irungu has served on the Education Committee of ICPAK from 2000 to 2008. While on this committee, she was a member of the task force on International Education Standard 5 implementation and became a Council member of the Institute in 2009. She was the convenor of the professional services committee of the Institute in 2010/2011 and currently is the convenor of the shared services committee of the Institute in 2011/12.

In addition, Ms. Irungu has also served on the Advisory Board of Students in Free Enterprise.

Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Ms. Irungu taught high school for two years and taught in a technical institute preparing students for the accounting professional examinations for another two years.

A Certified Public Accountant, Ms. Irungu undertook the Executive MBA Program at Strathmore Business School (anticipated graduation in 2012) and holds a Bachelor of Education (Hons) from Kenyatta University, Business Education and Economics.
