Ganapathy Ramaswamy was elected to the IFAC Board in November 2011. He was nominated by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Mr. Ramaswamy previously served as a Technical Advisor for the IFAC Board and the Professional Accountancy Organization Development Committee.

Mr. Ramaswamy is the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), a position he was elected to in February 2011. Prior to that, he had served as Vice President of the ICAI.

Mr. Ramaswamy has been a practicing Chartered Accountant since 1984 and has experience in taxation, company law and formation, and audit, including company, internal, bank, and insurance audit.

Mr. Ramaswamy also serves on many different boards and committees in India and globally, including as a member of the Board of the Confederation of Asian Pacific Accountants; the XBRL International Steering Committee; the Global Reporting Advisory Group for the Global Reporting Initiative's Focal Point India; the South Asian Federation of Accountant’s Committee for Improvement in Transparency, Accountability, and Governance; and the Indian Joint Working Group on the India-Netherlands Agreement on Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility.
