Gary John Previts is the E. Mandell de Windt Professor at the Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management, where he holds the rank of Distinguished University Professor. He is also co-author of A History of Accountancy in the United States and is editor of Research in Accounting Regulation.

Mr. Previts has served as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Board of Directors and conducted research for the AICPA Special Committee on Financial Reporting. In October 2007, he received the AICPA’s Gold Medal for service.

Mr. Previts has also served as president of the American Accounting Association and as a member of the US Financial Accounting Standards Board’s Business Reporting Research Project, the US Public Companies Accounting Oversight Board Advisory Council, and the Accountability Advisory Council of the US Government Accountability Office.

During 2007-2008, Mr. Previts served as a member of the Advisory Committee on the Auditing Profession of the US Department of the Treasury and chaired the subcommittee on Human Resources.  He was inducted as the 87th Member of the Ohio State University Accounting Hall of Fame in 2011.
