James Gaa

Dr. James Gaa joined the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants in January 2010 as a public member. He was nominated by the Certified General Accountants of Canada (CGA Canada).

Dr. Gaa has nearly 30 years of teaching and research experience in accounting and ethics at the university level. Dr. Gaa is currently a Professor of Accounting at the University of Alberta (Canada). He is a Fellow of the CGA Canada, where he served on the Board of Directors from 2004 to 2009.

Dr. Gaa has participated as a Board Member on the International Accounting Standards Board and as a member of the Canadian Advisory Group on International Accounting Standards. He was also an ex officio member of the Accounting Standards Oversight Council of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. In addition, Dr. Gaa served as a member and Chair of the Professionalism and Ethics Committee of the American Accounting Association for seven years during the 1990s. Dr. Gaa has Ph.D. degrees from Washington University in St. Louis (philosophy of science) and the University of Illinois (accounting)—both in the U.S.
