Joy Thomas, MBA, FCPA, FCMA, joined the IFAC Board in November 2014. She was nominated by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada), where she is also the Executive Vice President. She is a member of the IFAC Board’s Governance Committee.
Prior to joining CPA Canada, Ms. Thomas was President and Chief Executive Officer of The Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada), a position she assumed in June 2009. Ms. Thomas worked as a corporate Controller and CFO in industry until 1995 when she joined CMA Nova Scotia and Bermuda. Her most recent appointment prior to leading CMA Canada was as President and CEO for CMA Alberta.
Ms. Thomas currently serves as a board director, nominating committee, and governance committee member with the Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. She has served on many boards in the past, most recently the Canadian Comprehensive Audit Foundation, Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CMC Canada), and the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
