Mike Blake, FCA, FCPA, became a member of the IPSASB on January 1, 2016. He received a joint nomination from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and CPA Australia.
At the time of his nomination, Mr. Blake was the Auditor-General for Tasmania, an Australian State, a position he was appointed to in 2004 and from which he retired in March 2016. The office has a mandate to conduct audits of financial statements of State entities and to carry out audits of efficiency and effectiveness. He now focuses on IPSASB-related work and is Chair of Tasmania’s Electoral Commission.
He has 18 years public sector audit experience and 16 years audit experience in the private sector, including 8 as a Partner of a big 8 firm in Zimbabwe. Mr. Blake's roles in standard setting included three years on Australia's Urgent Issues Group, representing Auditors-General and six years on the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board; currently he is a member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board and a board member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, chairing its Audit and Risk Committee.
He has a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Natal, Durban, Republic of South Africa.
