Norbert Pfitzer became a member of the IFAC Board in November 2006.
Professor Pfitzer has more than 20 years of experience as a public auditor and licensed tax advisor. He is a Managing Partner and member of the Executive Board of Ernst & Young GmbH in Germany. Since 2003, he has served as a member of the Executive Board of the German Accounting Standards Committee (GASC) and previously served as Chair of the GASC's Working Group on Risk Reporting.
From 2002 until June 2007, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Germany (Institute of Chartered Accountants, or IDW) and a member of the Advisory Board of the Wirtschaftsprüferkammer (WPK). In June 2007, he was appointed Vice President of the Board of Directors of the WPK. Professor Pfitzer has also taken part in a number of working groups on accounting, auditing and ethical issues, including chairing the IDW's Working Group on ISA-Transformation from 1998 to 2002. From 1996 to 2005, Professor Pfitzer was a member of the Hauptfachausschuss (the IDW's Auditing and Accounting Board) which is responsible for issuing IDW Auditing Standards and IDW Accounting Principles. In May 2008 he was appointed as Deputy Chair and in February 2010 as chair of the Nominating Committee of the Financial Reporting Enforcement Panel in Germany.
Professor Pfitzer is a professor at the University of Mannheim, Germany where he lectures on quality and risk management in professional services firms and consolidated accounting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards. He holds a graduate degree in Business Administration and a doctorate in International Corporate Taxation.
