Norunn Byrkjeland joined the IFAC Board in November 2012, nominated by the Nordiska Revisorsförbundet (Nordic Federation of Accountants, or NRF).
Ms. Byrkjeland is a past president of the Nordic Federation of Accountants and a past president and Board member of the Den Norske Revisorforening (Norwegian Institute of Public Accountants, or DnR). She is also a past member of the Executive Council of the Fédération des Experts Comptables Européens (FEE), where she was Vice President and member of the Small- and Medium-Sized Practices and Entities (SMPs/SMEs) Task Force until end of 2012. She is also a member of the Examinations Board for Professional Accountants in Norway.
Ms. Byrkjeland is currently a partner at BDO in Norway and has more than 20 years of experience with BDO, including as managing partner and a Board member. She is currently the head of Risk Management and the head of the audit department. Ms. Byrkjeland has been a member of the BDO International Accounting and Auditing Steering Committee and is currently on the BDO International Risk Management Committee.
Ms. Byrkjeland has served clients in all categories, from large to small and international to national. She has also been active in the profession through DnR, FEE, the Tax Appeals Board for large companies, and the Nordic Federation of Accountants and as the co-author of the Norwegian Accounting Standards for SMEs.
Ms. Byrkjeland graduated from Norges Handelshøyskole in 1988 and soon after became a state authorized public accountant.
