Saleem Kharwa joined the International Accounting Education Standards Board in 2008 and became the deputy chair in January 2011. He was nominated by the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).

Mr. Kharwa holds two master’s degrees and is the deputy dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics at the Durban University of Technology.

He previously served as president and chair of the SAIPA, chair of the SAIPA's Education Committee, member of the Eastern Central and Southern African Federation of Accountants Executive Committee, and member of the Audit and Risk Management Committee of the South African Regulator.
