Yang Zhiguo became a member of the IFAC Board in November 2009. He has previous leadership experience with IFAC as a member of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) from 2002-2003. He was nominated by the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA).

Much of Dr. Yang's 15-year experiences in the accountancy profession has been devoted to the development of China's accountancy profession, particularly in the areas of auditing standards setting and convergence. He currently serves as the Deputy Secretary General and the Executive Director of the Council of CICPA, as well as the Vice Chairman of Ethics Standards Board of CICPA. 

Dr. Yang  actively participated in the IAASB-NSS annual meetings, which comprised of the major auditing standards setters from around the world, and is an Executive Board Member of the China Audit Society.

Dr. Yang holds a PhD in economics from the Renmin University of China and an MA in economics from the Central University of Finance and Economics (China).
