The IFAC PAO Development Committee is tasked with helping IFAC achieve strong, sustainable professional accountancy organizations around the world—the most effective, efficient, and sustainable source for advancing the accountancy profession—as part of the IFAC Capacity Building Program. The committee serves as an important strategic advisor to IFAC, actively contributing to IFAC’s strategic goals and assisting with implementation. This includes increasing the understanding of, and identifying solutions to, the challenges facing the development of strong PAOs as well as promoting, establishing, and strengthening PAOs in support of the public interest.
The committee’s work is carried out in diverse ways at the national, regional, and global levels and includes close collaboration with regional organizations and accountancy groupings.
The committee focuses on two core areas:
- Raising awareness of the success factors and challenges associated with the establishment and development of PAOs and the core elements of a strong accountancy profession. The committee develops tools and guidance to highlight good practices and conducts outreach to engage the profession and better understand regional and country contexts. The committee also actively promotes and shares guidance developed by PAOs, regional organizations, and other relevant bodies.
- Encouraging and facilitating knowledge sharing on the practical aspects of establishing a strong profession and the challenges in implementing international standards—and the solutions. This includes organizing workshops and discussion sessions (frequently in conjunction with committee meetings) that allow committee members, national and regional stakeholders, and donors to provide input into the work of the committee and share success stories. The committee also focuses on promoting effective knowledge exchange between PAOs.
Members of the committee come from both developed and developing economies and a variety of different sectors of the economy and the profession. The committee meets twice a year and involves donors, regional organizations, and PAOs at its meetings as part of its dedication to knowledge sharing.
Members of the committee represent IFAC on the MOSAIC Steering Committee.
