As the global organization of the accountancy profession, IFAC has an influential voice to represent and advocate on behalf of the public and the profession.
We speak out on public interest issues, present global accountancy profession views in current debates, and work to enhance the reputation and credibility of the profession.
IFAC is uniquely positioned to spearhead initiatives that demand a global reach; freedom from commercial and political interests; and the ability to create dialogue and debate. We capitalize on our strong connections with other international organizations; our connectivity across governments, businesses, and markets; our demonstrated ability to align the needs of the profession and the public; and our track record of raising awareness, advocacy, and engagement.
We particularly focus on promoting initiatives to enhance global economic stability and sustainability. Currently, our priority areas include:
- Promoting government transparency and accountability
- Improving the credibility and usability of financial reporting
- Enhancing organizational reporting
- Raising awareness of accountants in society
Formal policy positions are issued as Policy Position Papers; these currently include international regulatory convergence; global adoption of high-quality international reporting and professional standards; regulation of the accountancy profession; standard-setting in the public interest; sustainability and integrated reporting; SMP and SME matters; and public sector reporting and transparency.
IFAC also submits Comment Letters and recommendations to global and regional organizations, such as the Group of Twenty (G-20), the European Commission, and the IFRS Foundation.
IFAC Officers, staff, and other representatives promote the views and policy positions of the profession through speeches and presentations at various international forums, meetings, and conferences, and we conduct proactive media relations, including Op-Eds, letters to the editor, and thought leadership articles.
