Atsushi Kato joined the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants in January 2014 as a public member. He was nominated by the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (JICPA).
Mr. Kato was a fulltime board member and the vice-chairman of the Accounting Standards Board of Japan (ASBJ) for four years until March 2013. He had previously spent about six years on the ASBJ as a part-time board member. He served as the representative director and the president of Control Solutions International Co. Ltd. for about 2 years until December 2008. Before that, he served as a partner of the Japanese member firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers, including legacy Coopers & Lybrand, for over 35 years.
His past professional activities include Executive Board member of JICPA; board member of the Japanese Academic Research Society of Auditing; Extraordinary Member of the Business Accounting Deliberation Council, Financial Services Agency in Japan; technical advisor to the Market Division of the Financial System Planning Bureau, Ministry of Finance; and Japanese representative of the Steering Committee on Financial Instruments of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC).
He has a bachelor of commerce degree from the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Commerce, Chuo University, Tokyo.
