Priya Iyer

Priya Iyer joined the IFAC Professional Accountancy Organization Developing Committee in January 2016 after being nominated by the Association of Accounting Technicians and Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA). She was a Technical Advisor on the committee in 2015.

Ms. Iyer is the Pro Vice Chancellor – Employability & Development of Botho University, a leading private university in Botswana. Before joining the education sector, she was an Associate Director of PwC, Botswana.

She also worked as the Executive Officer of the Botswana Institute of Accountants (now BICA) during its formative years and served as the first female President. Even after leaving these positions, Ms. Iyer remains very passionate about the development of accountancy profession in Botswana and works closely with BICA. She has served on various BICA committees as well as the Council. It was during her term on Council and thereafter as President that an arrangement with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales helped the BICA and Botswana establish its own professional qualification.

Ms. Iyer has also served as a short-term consultant for the World Bank reviewing the Accountants Act in Botswana and establishing the oversight authority.

Ms. Iyer is a qualified Chartered Accountant from India and holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce.
