Rod Monette

Nominated by CPA Canada, Rod Monette, FCPA-CPA has been a member of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board since January 2015. 

Rod’s career spans 40 years in both the public and private sectors. In the public sector he completed his career at the level of Deputy Minister, and in the private sector he has chaired a number of Boards and Committees. He currently has a consulting practice.

He has held the positions of Comptroller General of Canada, Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence, and Chief Financial Officer for the Departments of National Defence, for Public Works and Government Services Canada, and Environment Canada.

He chaired the Canadian Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB), which sets accounting standards for governments and public entities in Canada, from 2012 to 2017, and was a member from 2008. He served as chair of two federal audit committees, Statistics Canada, and Employment and Social Development Canada, from 2012 to 2016. He has been a consultant to the government of Canada on several management and policy issues.

In 2009 Rod became a Fellow Chartered Accountant, and in 2012, he was awarded the CMA-CIPFA Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to comptrollership throughout his career. He previously earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Ottawa, and a Bachelor of Science from Carleton University. He lives in Toronto, and has played music professionally in his spare time.
