Twaha Kaawaase

Dr. Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase became a member of the IFAC Small and Medium Practices Committee in January 2016. He was nominated by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) in conjunction with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He previously served as a Technical Advisor to a member of the committee.

Mr. Kaawaase has practiced accounting and auditing for over 26 years in Uganda in as SMP, Sejjaaka, Kaawaase & Co. Certified Public Accountants.

Dr. Kaawaase is also a Senior Lecturer at Makerere University Business School and previously held senior positions in the insurance industry in Uganda and at the Uganda Development Bank. He has served on a number of key Boards of Directors and their respective Audit Committees in Uganda.

He is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Uganda Health Marketing Group, a USAID supported initiative. As service to the community, Dr. Kaawaase is the 2nd Deputy Katikkiro (Prime Minister) and Minister of Education, in the Kingdom of Buganda, one of the largest Kingdoms in Uganda. He is the immediate past Board Chair of the Uganda Capital Markets Authority, and has also served on the Boards of the National Bank of Commerce, the Civil Aviation Authority, and the National Planning Authority.

Dr. Kaawaase holds a bachelor of commerce (accounting) upper second degree of Makerere University, Kampala; and a post-graduate diploma in development finance and master of social science in accounting and development finance, both from the University of Birmingham in the UK. His PhD is in auditing (audit quality) from the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. He is a Certified Corporate Governance Trainer by the Commonwealth Association for Corporate Governance.

Dr. Kaawaase is a Fellow of the ACCA and a full member of ICPAU.
