Title: Managing Director, Professional Standards
James Gunn was appointed Managing Director, Professional Standards, effective June 2014. In this role, Mr. Gunn is a resource and key source of advice to the chairs of the independent standard-setting boards* and oversee the senior management of the boards. He serves as a spokesperson for the boards and, with the boards’ chairs, establishes and maintains relationships with key stakeholders. Mr. Gunn is also the primary liaison between the independent standard-setting boards, the Monitoring Group, and the Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB), as well as between the boards and IFAC.
Prior to this role, Mr. Gunn was the Technical Director of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB). Over his decade of services to the IAASB, Mr. Gunn managed and oversaw the activities of the board and its staff, and played a pivotal role in representing the board, building relationships, and conducting outreach with international stakeholders in more than 35 countries around the world.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Gunn worked at KPMG’s Canadian Assurance Practice and its Department of National Assurance and Professional Practice. He has extensive experience in audit and other assurance services, including those in connection with a number of significant capital market financing transactions. He has also lectured on the subject of auditing for several years.
Mr. Gunn is a Chartered Professional Accountant - Chartered Accountant in Canada. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.
* The independent standard-setting boards consist of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB), the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA), and the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB).
