João Fonseca

Title: Principal, IPSASB

João Fonseca is a principal responsible for standards development at the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB). In his position, Mr. Fonseca provides technical support to the IPSASB’s projects and initiatives and works closely with Task Forces, IPSASB members, and Technical Advisors to deliver the IPSASB’s work program. He is currently the lead staff on the IPSASB’s Leases project and is the IPSASB’s representative in the task teams related to the update of the International Statistical Standards.

Prior to joining the IPSAB, Mr. Fonseca was a Statistician at the National Accounts Department of Statistics Portugal and a member of the Portuguese Accounting Standards Board. Before that, Mr. Fonseca held a number of positions in both public and private sectors, including macroeconomic analyst at the Ministry of Economy, auditor at the Ministry of Finance, and accountant in several major corporations.

Mr. Fonseca holds a PhD in Economics from Aveiro University (Portugal) and a Master’s degree in Administration and Public Policies from ISCTE – Lisbon University Institute (Portugal).
