IFAC 2025 Annual Report: Building Trust and Shaping the Future of the Global Accountancy Profession

Building Trust. Shaping the Future.

IFAC’s 2025 Annual Report: Building Trust. Shaping the Future., highlights a year of collaboration, progress, and action to strengthen the global accountancy profession and prepare it for what comes next.

The world is changing quickly. Artificial intelligence is reshaping how we work. Expectations around sustainability and transparency continue to evolve. Organizations are navigating economic and geopolitical uncertainty. And the accountancy profession itself is changing as it works to attract and prepare the next generation of talent. Against this backdrop, one thing remains constant: the need for trust.

The 2025 IFAC Annual Report explores how IFAC worked alongside our members and partners around the world to help the accountancy profession respond to these challenges and seize the opportunities ahead.

“The years ahead will undoubtedly bring more disruption, but they will also bring new opportunities to lead, innovate, and strengthen trust. Together with our members, partners, and stakeholders, we will continue building a profession that not only responds to change but helps to shape it in the public interest,” said IFAC President Jean Bouquot.

Throughout 2025, we brought the global profession together to share ideas and perspectives, strengthened the profession’s voice on issues that matter, supported the adoption and implementation of high-quality international standards, and developed resources to help professional accountants and professional accountancy organizations respond to change.

Our work spanned some of the most consequential issues facing the profession today reflected in our strategic priorities. We advanced conversations about artificial intelligence and technology, exploring how innovation is changing the work of professional accountants while reinforcing the importance of human judgment, ethics, and accountability.

We continued our work to support sustainability transformation and trusted sustainability information, helping ensure the profession has the skills and capabilities needed to meet rapidly evolving expectations.

We focused on the future of the profession, including how we attract, educate, develop, and retain the next generation of professional accountants and ensure that accountancy remains a compelling and rewarding career.

We strengthened our work with professional accountancy organizations around the world, supporting strong, sustainable organizations that can serve their members, economies, and societies.

We also continued to convene and connect the global profession, creating opportunities for our members, partners, standard setters, policymakers, and other stakeholders to learn from one another and tackle shared challenges together.

The report also reflects something fundamental to how IFAC works: none of this happens alone. Our impact comes from the collective strength of our global community—our members, Network Partners, the Forum of Firms, volunteers, staff, and the many organizations and individuals who work alongside us.

As Jean Bouquot and IFAC Chief Executive Officer Lee White reflect in the report and in their video, professional accountants have an increasingly important role to play in helping organizations and economies navigate complexity. The tools may change and the expectations placed on the profession may grow, but the qualities at its foundation—integrity, professional judgment, accountability, and commitment to the public interest—remain essential.

Building trust and shaping the future go hand in hand. The progress captured in our 2025 Annual Report demonstrates what is possible when the global profession works together—and creates momentum for the opportunities ahead.

“This report showcases what we accomplished during 2025, but more importantly, it demonstrates the impact we can have when we come together as one global profession,” said Lee White.
