What attracted you to IFAC when you joined?
I have always been drawn to purpose driven work and IFAC's global mission of strengthening the accountancy profession in the public interest really aligned with my purpose. That coupled with the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the profession across Africa (a place I call home and whose growth I’m deeply passionate about) while working within a truly global organization aligned strongly with both my professional experience and personal values.
Were you surprised by anything once you became an employee?
I was pleasantly surprised by the level of collaboration across regions and teams. Despite being thousands of kilometers apart from colleagues spread across different countries and time zones, I have experienced a strong sense of shared purpose and a genuine willingness to support one another.
What is your role at IFAC?
I'm the Head of Member Engagement and Experience for Africa, which means I get to work with professional accountancy organizations, regulators, development partners, and other stakeholders across sub-Saharan Africa. My role focuses on strengthening the profession by supporting capacity-building initiatives, fostering strategic partnerships, and advancing IFAC's priorities in the region.
What does a workday look like for you?
No two days are the same. A typical day may include meetings with member PAOs or other stakeholders, planning an event, speaking at conferences, and collaborating with colleagues across multiple regions. Given the breadth and diversity of the African continent, the work is both dynamic and rewarding.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
The opportunity to make a meaningful impact. I enjoy working with diverse stakeholders and feeling like I am making a contribution towards strengthening institutions and professional capacity across Africa. It is especially rewarding to see initiatives translate into tangible benefits for the profession and the communities it serves.
What’s the most unique part about working here?
The global perspective. IFAC brings together people from different cultures, backgrounds, and professional experiences, creating opportunities to learn continuously while contributing to our shared mission.
What kinds of resources have you taken advantage of?
The access to thought leadership and research resources is probably at the top of that list. I also value the opportunity to learn from colleagues across the globe, whose diverse experiences continually broaden my perspective.
How has your career grown since starting at IFAC?
It's still early days, but for the introvert that I am, working at IFAC has already challenged me to step outside my comfort zone. Engaging with colleagues, member organizations, and stakeholders from around the world has broadened my perspective and reinforced the value of connection, collaboration, and learning from different experiences.
What would you do for a career if you weren’t doing this?
I've always loved fashion as a form of creative expression. While I used to sew, I think I'd be happiest working as a fashion buyer or stylist - helping people tell stories and express themselves through what they wear. It taps into a different side of my personality that values creativity, aesthetics, and individuality.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
This one is a little biased, but I have to say, it is without a doubt the Western Cape right here in South Africa. It has the best of everything: the vibrancy of the city for dressing up and enjoying great restaurants, the ocean for relaxation, and the mountains and gardens when I want to reconnect with nature and of course, the Winelands. A close second is Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It has a similar balance of natural beauty, adventure, and a laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to unwind. Both places remind me of the importance of slowing down, spending time outdoors, and appreciating beautiful surroundings.
How do you spend your days off?
My days off are usually spent with my children, whether we're exploring somewhere new or simply enjoying time together. I also love hiking, trying new restaurants, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
