Rachel Banfield joined the International Accounting Education Standards Board in January 2015. She was nominated by the Association of Accounting Technicians.
Dr. Banfield has broad leadership experience having worked in higher education for the past 15 years. Her leadership portfolio includes teaching and learning, academic development, research and scholarship, international development and external business engagement. Her career began in local government where she worked for 12 years as both accountant and auditor.
She is a Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and was the President of the Association for the period 2014-15. Dr. Banfield served for nine years as an AAT Council member during which time she chaired the Learning and Development Board and the Global Development Steering Group. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and has worked closely with CIPFA over the years, including as a member of the Qualifications Development Panel and Member Services Board.
She holds a Masters qualification in Finance and Accounting. Her doctoral studies explored the role of the audit committee from a corporate governance perspective and is currently a member of the audit committee of the national charity Heart Research UK.
