Professor Roger Simnett became a member of the IAASB in January 2019. He was nominated by the Financial Reporting Council, Australia.

Prof. Simnett is the current chair and CEO of the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board and is a Scientia Professor of Accounting at UNSW Sydney Business School, Australia.

Prof. Simnett’s background is in international standard setting, having served for the last 25 years on various standard-setting bodies, including a previous term on the IAASB as a public member (2002-2005) and on the International Integrated Reporting Council (2011-2014). He also co-chaired the IAASB International Standard on Assurance Engagements 3410 task force, which developed the standard, and was a member of the IAASB ISAE 3000 task force.

Prof. Simnett has a PhD from UNSW and is a recognized international researcher whose research interests cover a range of international auditing and assurance issues aimed at improving audit and assurance quality and making policy recommendations. He has been awarded the Order of Australia for his service to the accounting profession and education and is a Fellow of CPA Australia and the Academy of Social Sciences.
